I have a LaserJet 1200 that apparently no longer works on my Mac Mini due to the driver.  Any idea how I can get it working again?

Hello @Alyshaun, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

The HP LaserJet 1200 is a legacy printer, and HP no longer provides updated macOS drivers for current versions of macOS. As Apple has transitioned to newer printing technologies, some older printers may no longer function after a macOS upgrade because compatible drivers are no longer available.

To see if the printer can still be used, you can try the following:

  1. Connect the printer to your Mac.
  2. Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  3. Remove the existing LaserJet 1200, if it is already listed.
  4. Click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax and select the printer.
  5. In the Use field, see if you can select Generic PostScript Printer or Generic PCL Printer instead of the previous driver, then add the printer.

If those options are unavailable or the printer still does not print, it is likely due to the lack of a compatible driver for your version of macOS.

Could you please let us know:

  • The exact Mac Mini model (Intel or Apple Silicon).
  • Your macOS version.

Have a great day!

I'm an HP Employee.
