LaserJet 5550
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello Community - My HP Color LaserJet 5550 control panel will not proceed passed  "Initializing..."

I did replace all four toner cartridges two days ago - but I did succesfully print after that

Now the control panel will not proceed passed  "Initializing..."

Any ideas on how to fix this?  Or who can I hire to fix this?

You can cold reset it for the first step of troubleshooting:

Hello - Thank You for your response

I have done the Cold Reset and the 5550 is still does not proceed past "Initializing..."

Since my first post I have also pulled the board and re-seated the RAM and Card

I do not recall having a JetDirect card and there is only one card in the three available slots

Any other options I can try at this point?  Buy another board on Ebay?

It could be defective RAM, older laptops have RAM that you can use in 5550. If you can get a cheap board on eBay but with RAM and Flash SD card that would be great. Don't buy naked board unless you are 100% sure that your RAM and SD Card are in full working order.

Hi Valsimot - thanks for responding again - one more quick question

I do see all 256MBytes of RAM looped thru before "Initializing..." without error reported - if the RAM were bad would the control panel display a message reporting Bad RAM?

There is no information if the RAM is defective. Flash SD contains printers firmware so more likely to be Flash SD or RAM than a board.  I have replaced more defective RAM's and Flash SD cards than main boards on CLJ 5550.
