HP LaserJet M506
Other

Hi,

We have HP LaserJet M506 which replaced our older Kyocera printer.

We had it set up to use on LAN via TCP port and over USB from our legacy system.

When printing from usb print comes out ok but the message on the screen says recived data, processing from tray 2 (blinking hour glass). After the job is printed the message stays on the screen and the hour glass still flashing.

You can still print but the printer gets stuck at random and eather spits all spooled documents out of the blue or looses them completly.

2nd issue is that if we print from USB , if somone sends job over LAN it stops spooling jobs via USB and the rest of the job is lost.

This setup is no different from our previous one with Kyocera which we had no issues with.

What I've tried so far is :

- Update system to latest avaialble

- Tried different spooler configs on PCs

- Reseting to defaults

N.B. -Printer restart removes "processing from tray 2" but it comes back after 1st print via USB

        - When we plug in our old printer back it works fine

I am not sure about the official word from HP is, but on this model I would not use both USB and Network  and some models wll not function at all this way. If it is already networked you should just attach all users via a TCP/IP port and disconnect the USB.

We had to disconnect LAN temporarily which is a massive pain in neck. This solved interruption of jobs but persistent "processing from tray 2" ,blinking hourglass and prints getting stuck remained.
It looks like the printer internal spooler has issues prioritising interface and dealing with some jobs.
It would be nice to set a cool off time before switching interfaces or accepting jobs to the spooler form let say USB when LAN is printing.
Second fix could be that if the job is no processed within x amount of time it should be removed from quene.

At the moment printer sits with the message like on the photo all the time.

We have a M506 in our environment that is having what appears to be the same issue.  Did you ever figure how to clear the "processing job from tray 2"  We have completely replaced the device with a brand new one straight out of the box, but it does the exact same thing.  Just curious if you ever got this completely fixed.
