HP LaserJet P2035n
Microsoft Windows Server 2012 and older

My company had an issue with a LaserJet P2035n this morning where the printer would repeatedly say a document was in the error state, but it would still print to the printer. The issue here is when it says the document is in error, it seems to automatically retry printing once the error has cleared. This causes the printer to enter an infinite loop where it continually prints the "error" document. I've connected the printer via network connection to a server in our main office, although the printer itself is located in another office which we have a VPN connection to.

I understand this printer is no longer supported by HP, so I'm asking the community if anyone has ever heard of this issue before. My thanks in advance.

A work around is to turn off "bi-directional" communication in the print driver. That stops the driver from looking for a confirmation from the printer that the job printed ok and the driver then assumes that all jobs are done once they send the print jobs.

We will give this a try and respond if there are issues. For now, I'm marking this as solved with your response as that seems to be the issue we're experiencing. If turning off bi-directional communication disables re-printing a document that went into a supposed error state, this is the answer.
