HP LaserJet Pro M402n
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have a HP LaserJet Pro M403n printer.  Currently, I use a HP black toner cartridge for regular printing and a non-HP black toner MICR cartridge for printing checks.  While the HP cartridge was in the printer, which I have used since July with no problems, I was printing a report and the printer displayed the following message "Supply Memory Error. ?".  I tried using my MICR cartridge, but I got the same message.  I have tried to completely shut down the printer and restart it, but I am still getting the same message.  My HP Status and Alerts says "Supply Memory Defective on Black Cartridge".  Please help!

If you look at where the chip is located on the toner cartridge, then look inside the printer where that chip would be... you'll see a chip reader.  Clean the contacts on the chip reader and see if that helps.

I will try cleaning the contacts and let you know if it worked.

I cleaned the contacts on the printer, but it didn't make any difference.  I am still getting the same suppy memory error message.

You could try upgrading the firmware, download the latest from hp.com and follow the upgrade instructions.

Typically the supply memory error will not stop the printer from printing, are you still able to print?

HP Recommended

I have not been able to print anything since the error came up.  I will try to upgrade the firmware and see what happens.

Change the toner, had the same problem & changed the toner now its working fine.

I tried updating the firmware and changing toner cartridges.  It still isn't working and I can't print anything.

I have the same problem with you, I have tried replacing the board that reads the chip and it work. But that is still question what caused the board damaged? Does the processor locked because non original toner usage?
