Hello

I need help resetting my printer to factory defaults,  After successfully setting up my printer, i went into the web app to set the administration password.  After setting the password, i could not use that very same password to access most of the administrative functions.  As well, i could not print via wireless after the password snafu.  So, i decided to reset the network settings.  As this printer does not have an LCD display, i followed the directions and pushed the wifi and cancel buttons together for three seconds.  I then began to add the printer via the IOS HP Smart App.  All went well until it asked me the question Enter printer password to continue setup. Well, that is why i had tried to reset the network in the first place.  I tried the only default password i had from the network summary sheet, WI-FI Direct Setup: 12345678.  That did not work.  I once again tried the password that got me into this mess in the first place; that did not work.  So, I tried again, this time holding the wifi and cancel buttons for five seconds.  Same result.  I then pushed just the wifi button until the power light started to blink,  Still, it asked me for a password.

So:

  • Is there a default password that i just did not see in the documentation
  • Is there a different means of clearing the network settings or non-volatile RAM
  • Do i need to return the printer for a new one and try again

After more searching, it looks like i possibly need the Wi-Fi Direct to be enabled to possibly fix my issue.  I have tried to enable  Wi-Fi Direct from the panel by pressing the network button.  I ran a Network summary, but Wi-Fi direct is still disabled,  I found a link or two on how to perform a factory reset, which (i believe) is what i was looking for in my first post.  I tried both methods (1. unplug the power cord and hold the power button for thirty seconds.  2. While the printer is on, unplug the power cable and leave unplugged for 60 seconds).  Both times, when the power cable is plugged back in, the printer performs its initialization and both times the Wi-Fi direct was still disabled.

So, another day and I am still not able to print over Wi-Fi and still looking for a little assistance.

@thatiguy Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you would like to reset the printer password.

  • Did you check the user guide of the printer to restore it to factory defaults?

For now, try visiting the EWs page of the printer by printing a network configuration report. VIist the user guide link:http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05847830 and refer to page 68 for instructions on how this is done.

  • This should take care of it for you.
  • if it continues, then I will send a private message to perform an NVRAM reset on the printer that takes it back to factory setting in a private message.
  • These instructions are exclusively for this printer and will not work with any other printer.

I will send you a private message to assist you with the next course of action. Check your forum private message box in the upper right corner next to the bell icon.
