I had problems with network printing from Ubuntu 18.04 based applications to my HP LaserJet Professional P1102w (CE657A), firmware 20130703.

When using the latest HPLIP 3.18.9, no printout at all would be possible, not even a test page sent from hp-toolbox - although the printer seemed to be successfully installed and set up.

I was able to resolve this issue by installing an older version of HPLIP 3.17.10 - very strange to me, as during the installation I was explicitly being told that this version of HPLIP is not compatble with Ubuntu 18.04.
