Surface Book 2
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

My HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401n printer won't print from Surface Book 2 with Windows 10 x 64. The printer is directly connected with my Surface Book 2 through the USB port, and I have the latest software and drivers installed on the Surface Book 2.

I have installed, uninstalled and reinstalled on the Surface Book 2 the latest software and drivers for the printer from the HP site, updated the firmware on the Surface Book 2, cleared the printer spooler, used the printer trouble shooter, used the HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP, restarted and rebooted the printer and the Surface Book 2, removed the printer device and the files, and added them back and restarted, installed the latest updates for Windows 10, checked the USB cable and the USB port, and have done everything suggested so far on the web but it still won't print.

When I try to send a document to the printer, the printer comes alive but the print queue on the Surface Book 2 says 0 documents on queue. I am not able to Test Print a page from the HP Print and Scan Doctor but it prints an internal Test Page.

I have spent already 10 hours trying to resolve this and any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

MK

I suggest you try the HP Universal Print Driver.

Hi:

I tried your suggestion after uninstalling previous drivers, removing the device, clearing out the files and the print spooler, and restarting the Surface Book 2, plugging in the USB cable, etc., as before, downloaded from HP site the universal printer driver and installed it. The driver installed fine but I still can't print on the HP Printer. The printer wakes up but I am not even able to Test Print but I am able to get the printer to print an Internal Test Page from the Surface Book 2. When I ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor, it says there is a problem with the software that cannot be fixed with the diagnostic tool and of course, it said the same even before with the previous printer driver. The printer icon appears at the bottom of the Windows task bar and says 0 documents in print queue as before.

I also want to mention that I am able to print on the HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401n fine from my Dell Laptop connected directly with a USB cable but it doesn't print from the Surface Book 2. My suspicion is that it is something to do with the driver interaction with the Surface Book 2. I posted also this same question on the Microsoft Community Forum a week ago but haven't received any response or suggestions.I wonder if anyone else has been able to print from the Surface Book 2 directly connected through a USB cable to an HP printer.

Any other suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks

MK
