I'm helping someone try to get their printer working.  It worked fine on W7 but he wanted to use the printer on W10 and that's when problems arose.

He said the printer worked fine initially, but then it must have installed some sort of driver automatically that caused issues.

I've installed both Universal Printer Drivers, postscript and PCL6, and neither worked.  I've removed drivers via registry, device manager, etc, done clean sweeps and reinstalled drivers and the same thing happens every time.

An error occurs and the printer's display says to print last document (or something like that), and then when you press the Green checkmark, it just prints out smiley faces.

We have tried USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports.  I've tried changing the printers port properties to USB instead of DOT4.  When I do this the error doesn't happen but the printer also does nothing.  DOT4 causes errors.

Any help would be appreciated, I wish I could be more descriptive but I'm not at the printer or computer while typing this.  Thanks.

I also tried to update the firmware via command prompt.  I did all the correct steps, I'm sure.  But I couldn't get anything to cooperate, I'm guessing it's because the communication between the computer and printer are not cooperating.
