I'm also having problems with the "attention required" error on my printer.  I see many different answers...none have worked so far.

I've deleted and re-installed the printer and drivers.

I cleared, closed, and restarted the spooler.

I've tried the Print and Scan Doctor (it recognizes it, but cannot communicate with it)

Each print requires that I first print a test page, then the que is dumped and printed.

Hardwired on Enet cable.

New Dell machine...I've owned the printer for many years.

Thanks for any help or ideas.

@myvrnsk, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Check to see what port was assigned to the printer.

From Devices and Printers, right-click

your printer and left click Printer Properties.

Click on the Ports tab.

If the printer is selected on the WSD port, try and create a new port by clicking on the Add Port button. You might have one in the list for TCP/IP for your printer name if you do just select it and Apply the Settings.

We have one more setting to check from the Ports tab, uncheck SNMP Status Enabled.

Then Click OK and Apply.

Try printing again from the Laptop.

If you are still having issues printing, download and run the Print and Scan Doctor, it will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it.

Let me know the outcome.

Cheers 🙂

The above did not work.  This did:

First, I uninstalled the printer and shut everything ('puter, router, modem, and printer) off.  Powered things back on slowly, one at a time: Modem.  Router.  Computer.   Printer.

Then:

Step 1: Hit and hold the Page button on top of the printer.  Hold it for a while.  A test page and a network configuration page or two will come out.

Step 2: Note the address provided in the "Enable HP Web Services" note.  THAT is the address of your printer.

Step 3: Open a browser, create a new window and enter that address.  This will open your printer web page.

Step 4: I'm not sure if it's necessary, but on the "HP Web Services" tab DISable the Web Services if they are enabled.  Mine were not.  Also, on the "Settings" tab, under "Print Settings," I clicked on "Restore Factory Settings" and hit Apply.

Step 5: Last, I went to the "HP Smart Install" tab and I clicked on "Download" and installed the drivers from there.  Driver install from the HP Support page did not work, but this did.

It's working fine now.
