HP Laser Jet Pro M12w
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

I have connected my HP Laser Jet Pro M12w via USB to a Mac mini running OSX 10.11  When I try to print, the progress bar says it has printed but the printer does nothing at all. When I use the button on the printer it does print the self test.

This is the error message I receive:

E [21/Dec/2018:18:30:08 +0100] Photosmart_Wireless_B109n_z__2141A1_: El archivo “/Library/Printers/hp/cups/filters/commandtohp.filter/Contents/MacOS/commandtohp” no está disponible: No such file or directory

Yes, the printer should be powered on and plugged into Mac while performing those steps.

A warm welcome to HP Forums! This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

It sounds like an issue with the printer software and driver installed on your Mac. Removing the existing software/driver and then installing a compatible software/driver may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:

1.) Open Finder and click Applications

2.) Move HP Folder to Trash and then clear the Trash.

3.) Open Finder then click Go and Click Home.

4.) Click View then Click Show View Options. Check the box Show Library Folder.

The change is instantaneous and the Library folder will immediately becomes visible.

5.) Open Library and Open Printers, move the printer to Trash and clear the Trash.

6.) Download ans install the software and drivers available here.

7.) If you are prompted for a printer connection type, select USB.

8.) On the Install screen, make sure HP Scan or HP Easy Scan is selected if your printer has a scanner to enable full scan functionality.

9.) When you are prompted to add the printer to the printer queue, check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

10.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button  at the bottom of the list.

11.) Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

12.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select the name of your printer in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

Select your printer name in the Use menu on the Add screen

13.) Return to the HP installer to complete the installation.

14.) Try to print.

Let me know how it goes!

Hi Senan6806.  First, thanks for replying and for your detailed suggestion. Before I try to do what you suggest, I would like to be certain of a couple of things:

1. Should the printer be plugged into the computer while I am installing the new software/driver?

2. If so, should it be turned on at all times during the process?

Thanks very much!

I used this for my mac and it works now when plugged in by usb.  Any chance I could get it to print wirelessly with my mac?
