I Have a HP Laserjet Pro M102a Printer that has suddenly stopped picking Paper. When a print Job is sent to the Printer, the printer will just try to pull the Paper but it will fail. Then shortly the print job gets cleared from the Print Jobs Pool and yet no paper that has been printed.
I have replaced the Pickup Roller but still the printer is not picking the Paper.

Hi @SheddyM,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for reaching out and for providing the details. I understand how frustrating it is when your HP LaserJet Pro M102a suddenly stops picking up paper, especially after you've already replaced the pickup roller.

Since the pickup roller has already been replaced and the print job clears without printing, let's try a few basic checks to help narrow down the cause.

1. Check the paper

  • Make sure the paper is clean, dry, and not curled or damaged.
  • Fan the stack of paper before loading it into the input tray.
  • Adjust the paper guides so they rest lightly against the edges of the paper without bending it.

2. Verify the paper tray

  • Remove the paper from the input tray.
  • Check for any small pieces of paper or foreign objects inside the paper path.
  • Reload a small stack of paper and try printing again.

3. Perform a printer reset

  • Turn the printer on.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord directly to the wall outlet and then to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on and try printing again.

4. Print an internal report

Try printing a configuration or self-test page directly from the printer. This will help determine whether the issue is with the printer's paper feed mechanism or the computer/driver.

5. Check the print queue

Since you mentioned the print job disappears from the queue, please let us know:

  • Does the printer make any grinding or clicking noise when attempting to pick up the paper?
  • Does it display any error lights or messages?
  • Does the issue occur when printing an internal report as well, or only when printing from the computer?

If the printer still fails to pick up paper after replacing the pickup roller and completing the above checks, please let us know:

  • Is the separation pad still the original one, or has it also been replaced?
  • Approximately how many pages has the printer printed?
  • Could you share a short video showing what happens when the printer attempts to pick up the paper?

These details will help us determine whether the issue is related to the paper feed mechanism or another hardware component so we can guide you with the next appropriate steps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hello @VikramTheGreat,
I have performed all the basic checks you had shared but still No Change.
When sending a print job from my computer and even when running a self-test page directly from the printer, the printer is producing some "Whoooooiing" sound then enters a error state and it does not pick paper

Hi @SheddyM,

Thank you for completing the basic checks. Since the same “Whoooooiing” sound and error state occur even when you run a self-test page directly from the printer, this is not limited to the computer or print driver.

This points more toward a mechanical or hardware-related issue, particularly since the printer is also unable to pick up paper.

Before arranging service, try these checks:

  1. Turn the printer off and disconnect the power cable.
  2. Remove the toner/cartridge and check the cartridge area for any packing material, obstruction, loose paper, or foreign object.
  3. Check the paper path and pickup area for any jammed or torn paper.
  4. Make sure the correct paper size is loaded and the paper guides are positioned correctly without being too tight.
  5. Reinstall the toner/cartridge securely, reconnect the power cable directly to a wall outlet, and turn the printer on.
  6. Try another self-test/configuration page directly from the printer.

If the printer still makes the unusual noise, enters an error state, and does not pick up paper, the issue will require physical inspection. At this point, I recommend contacting an HP Authorized Service Center/HP Authorized Store for further assistance. They can inspect the paper-pickup mechanism, drive system and other internal hardware and determine what needs to be repaired or replaced.

Since the printer produces the same failure without a computer being involved, I would not continue troubleshooting the PC or reinstalling the printer software.
