HP Laserjet Pro M404dW Oxc9c60005 error code SX LIB SMARTDE.  this leaves the printer where it will come on and display this code, nothing more.

the error solutions are about performing a reset but how in this state?  is there a way to enter service mode via the panel and power buttons?  since no service manuals are no longer available (because i believe the manufacturers want you to have to discard and get another.  won't let you fix it yourself due to GREED) what procedure will allow you to shortcut the startup?  there used to be ways with different button combinations.

Hi @bareda,

The error code "Oxc9c60005" with description "SX LIB SMARTDE" on your HP LaserJet Pro M404dw printer indicates a problem that might be related to the printer's internal system. Here are some general steps you can take to try to resolve this issue:

  1. Restart the Printer:

    • Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
    • Wait for about 60 seconds.
    • Reconnect the power cable and turn the printer back on.
  2. Check for Firmware Updates:

    • Ensure your printer is running the latest firmware. You can check for updates through the HP Support page or directly via the printer's control panel if connected to the internet.
    • Visit the HP Support - Software and Driver Downloads page to locate firmware updates for your specific model.
  3. Reset the Printer:

    • Perform a factory reset to restore the printer to its default settings. This can sometimes resolve persistent faults. Keep in mind that a reset will erase custom settings and configurations.
    • Refer to the printer’s manual or HP's support website for instructions specific to the M404dw on performing a factory reset.
  4. Inspect Printer Connections:

    • Ensure all cables are firmly connected.
    • Check USB or network cables for any signs of damage and replace if necessary.
  5. Run Diagnostic Tools:

    • Some HP printers come with built-in diagnostics that you can run to identify and remedy specific issues.
