HP M28W

I have 3 HP M28W's and every toner cartridge I have tried gives me error 11. Anyone had this issuse and if so how was it resolved? Thanks in advance.

Error 11 shows up if the toner cartridge is not compatible with the printer, has been protected on another printer, or is an unauthorized toner cartridge.

  • Use genuine HP toner cartridges
  • Please check if the toner cartridges that you are using are compatible.

Check the compatibility details below.

  • If the cartridge is genuine and if 'Cartridge Protection Mode' is enabled on the toner cartridges from one printer, the same toner cartridges would not function on other printers.

Does this printer require only HP branded toner cartidges? I have tried 3 oem all with the same results. I have gone into settings and disabled "check cartridge compatibilty" also.

I did some research and found that there is a feature called 'Dynamic Security Feature'.

This feature can reject cartridges that do not have HP's security chip on them.

 

This security chip is also used by some of the other manufacturers and their cartridges would work.

I think the OEM cartridges that you have purchased lack that security chip, and hence it may not be functioning.

Ok, so how do I disable that? Or do I need to trash all HP printers and start using and selling another brand?

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP.

They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number.

Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact.

Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

Please advise if we can use non HP cartridges.  We are having this same issue.
