HP LaserJet Enterprise M507dn
Microsoft Windows 11

I'm having a strange issue where one of our PCs can't print checks on our M507 printers with MICR ink. I can print test pages & normal documents to the M507 just fine.  I can print checks fine to our other printers, but none of them support the special ink. I noticed that when I print a check to the M507, it goes into the print queue, does its thing, and then gets sent to the printer; however, the printer does nothing after that.

  • I contacted the manufacturer of our accounting software and was told they tried everything on their end, and it has to be a PC-to-printer issue.
  • I have tried newer (8.0.1329.9791) and older (8.0.1329.5901) HP PCL-6 drivers from HPs website
  • I have updated the firmware to version 5.9.2.3
  • I have tried to print with the printer connected via USB and over the network
  • I have compared all the settings from the non-working PC to a PC that works just fine and can't see a difference
  • I have replaced the PC and added no software as a last-ditch effort because I'm the 4th person to try to resolve this issue

Hi @SULU2026,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for providing such a detailed description of the issue. I can understand the frustration, especially considering everything you have already tested. You have already gone well beyond the usual driver and connectivity troubleshooting.

I checked the HP LaserJet Enterprise M507dn specifications you referenced. The M507dn supports standard HP PCL 6/PCL 5/PostScript printing, but the standard M507dn specifications do not list MICR check printing as a native printer feature. HP's documentation specifically identifies MICR check-printing printers as a specialized solution available for HP LaserJet printers.

This is important because your description indicates that normal printing works correctly, while the check job reaches the printer but the printer does not print it. That makes a basic Windows 11 connection or standard HP driver problem less likely.

At this point, I recommend checking the following:

  • Confirm whether the M507dn is an HP/TROY MICR-configured printer, rather than a standard M507dn.
  • Check the printer's Configuration Page and note the firmware, printer configuration, and any MICR-related information.
  • Compare the Configuration Page from the working M507 printer with the one that does not print the checks.
  • If possible, print the same check from the working PC to this M507dn. This will help determine whether the issue follows the PC/check-printing software or the printer.

Please also let us know whether the printer displays any message or error when the check job is sent, even if it disappears afterward.

One important point from HP's documentation: HP supports only TROY MICR toner for HP/TROY LaserJet MICR printers, and MICR-specific issues can involve the MICR configuration and printing functions: HP LaserJet Enterprise M507dn - Specifications & Accessories | HP® Support

If you can share a photo of the printer's Configuration Page (with any sensitive network information hidden), we can review the printer configuration and help determine the next appropriate HP-supported step.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
