Hello All

We have a lot of these printers deployed in our environment. We have to replace them from time to time. I was looking into saving a bit of hassle by backing up the configuration for each printer. In the web console, on the "system" tab, there is the "save and restore" option. I click on the "save" option and it exports an XML file. To test it out, I impoted that xml file on another m227 and it looks like the only thing that saved was the device location. None of the scan settings, the device settings, none of the network settings were saved. Am I missing something or is what I'm looking for just not possible?

@danwill008,

Thank you for reaching out to the HP Support community!

The Save and restore feature is used to back up the configuration of various settings like Copy Settings, Printer Settings, Email Alerts Settings, Digital Fax Settings, Fax Phone Book Settings, Fax Settings, Scan to Email Settings, Scan to Folder Settings, etc.

I think maybe the export or import was not successful.

Perform a Power Reset and then try import/export.

  • Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector.
  • Turn the printer on.
  • Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Wait at least 60 seconds
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  • Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

Try to save the exported file to a different location and then try to import the file.

The Save and Restore option requires a password. So please create a password while exporting and use the same password while importing.

Note: Network configuration cannot be imported as the device usually may not get the same IP address as the older printer. It would be decided by the Router.

Let me know if this information helps.

Hello @atharva_gp

Thanks for taking the time to reply to me. I've tried importing a config from another printer and got similar results. We have a lot of scan to settings that we have to setup on each of these printers, it would be a great help if we could get those to export at least. Another alternative I was looking into was the HP Web Jetadmin as it looks like it may come in handy seeing as we have a lot of these printers floating around our network. Would the software be compatible with the M227 model, or would it only work with enterprise printers?

Thanks,

Daniel Williams

@danwill008,

Only a few printer models would work with the  HP Web Jetadmin. HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227d/M227dn is compatible with the HP Web Jetadmin.
