HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn
macOS 10.14 Mojave

For quite a few years I have an HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn.  It is connected to my network via a switch connection to an Orbi router.  The printer is added to my iMac and I haven't had many problems over the years until recently.  I don't print very often maybe once a week.  It seems the printer disappears from the network.  When I attempt to print the printer queue says its looking for the printer and never finds it.  I go into the Orbi router and it isn't listed.  I've restarted the printer, router, switch, and the iMac.  I had bookmarked the IP to access the printer but it seems to no longer use that previous IP.

Any suggestions?

@rsstorey, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

  • Do you have any Anti-virus software installed on your MAC?
  • Check if your router is able to forward 'Bonjour packets'.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, check for any software updates on your MAC

Reconnect the Ethernet cable between the printer and the router directly.

Verify that one of the network lights is illuminated on the network port located on the back of the product.

For more info on how to connect the printer, refer to page 25 of the User guide.

Let me know how this goes.
