Officejet 8600 Printer
Microsoft Windows XP

Hi,  my HP Officejet 8600 All-in-One printer  has the blue cartridge printing awful streaks -- which are alternatively clear, off-blue, purple, etc.

Here's the thing -- I switched out the blue toner cartridge, and the new blue toner cartridge did the same thing.  And the next blue toner too.  The same streaks in the same places.  The yellow and red toners work fine.

I've turned it off/on, I've run the printhead clean, and I have upated the firmware.  It still prints the blue in terrible streaks.

Any suggestions? Thanks!!

Hi! @BrianFromWI, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!

I understand when you print from your printer the printer is printing blue streak on pages.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Does the issue persist when you make a copy from your printer?

Have you tried printing using a different brand paper?

Have you tried printing using a different cartridge?

As you mentioned when you print from your printer the printer is printing blue streak on pages.

Try the steps recommended below.

Check the estimated ink levels, and then replace any low or empty cartridges.

Print a Print Quality Diagnostics report

Print a Print Quality Diagnostics report, and then evaluate the results.

  1. Load plain white paper into the input tray.

  2. On the printer control panel, touch the Right Arrow () to display additional options.

  3. Touch Setup (), touch the Down Arrow (), and then touch Reports.

  4. Touch Print Quality Report. The Print Quality Diagnostics Report prints.

Align the printhead

Use an automated tool to align the printhead.

  1. Load plain white paper into the input tray.

  2. On the printer control panel, touch the Right Arrow () to display additional options.

  3. Touch Setup (), and then touch Tools.

  4. Touch Align Printhead. The printer prints an alignment page.

  5. After the printer prints the alignment page, touch OK to return to the Home screen.

Clean the printhead

To clean the printhead, go to Tools on the printer control panel.

  1. Load plain white paper into the tray.

  2. On the printer control panel, touch the Right Arrow () to display additional options.

  3. Touch Setup (), and then touch Tools.

  4. Touch Clean Printhead. There are three cleaning stages. A test page (different from the Print Quality Diagnostics page) prints between each cleaning stage. Do not use this test page for analysis. Touch No when prompted to continue the next level of cleaning.

  5. Print another Print Quality Diagnostics Report to determine if the issue is resolved.

  6. Examine Test Pattern 2 on the Print Quality Diagnostics Report.

If the copy works fine, try uninstalling the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.

In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.

Select your HP printer.

Select Uninstall.

In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.

In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”

Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.

Type printui.exe /s and click OK.

Click on Drivers tab.

Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.

Select OK.

Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

Close Devices and Printers.

Update the full feature printer software using this link: https://hp.care/2Dswz6n

If the issue still persists after trying out the steps. Try replacing the ink cartridge or it is a hardware issue with your printer.
