My printer and fax works fine but since a little while ago I cannot scan anymore. Clicking on the desktop Scan Icon the message 'HP Scan: HP Officejet 6500 E710n-z was not found'. The Wi-Fi connection is ok since the printer works fine.

Can somebody help?

Hello bonvreno,

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums! 🙂 I see you are having some problems scanning with your HP Officejet 6500, when you attempt to click the icon you get an error 'HP Scan: HP Officejet 6500 E710n-z was not found'.

I would like you to start here and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor- It was designed by HP to provide users with the troubleshooting and problem solving features needed to resolve many common problems experienced with HP print and scan products connected to Windows-based computers.

If you are still running into problems with scanning after running the PSDR, please let me know the following:

1. What did the PSDR find, any error messages?

2. Have you recently installed any Windows or Mac updates, or any changes to the Operating system?

3. What is the current Operating system you are running, Windows or Mac and which version?

I will watch for your reply.

The PSDR gave the message that the installation is not complete. I then reinstalled from the HP download side. Now setting up the device I am running into problems that I cannot connect via to the device. I have tried with Wi-Fi and cable and the symptom is the same with both. The device appears in the install panel (Netzwerkprüfung) and I can select it and click on ‘Weiter’. I then get the message ‘Netzwerkinstallation nicht erfolgreich’. I have tried to select ‘Mein Drucker ist nicht aufgeführt’ on the panel (Netzwerkprüfung) and after entered the IP Address. Same result!

TX for helping again

Greetings @Maple05,

I hope you will enjoy your experience on the HP Support Forums! I see by your post that you can't scan. I would like to help.

Please try these steps to see if it will help resolve the issue, for not being able to scan, After Windows 10 Upgrade, Printer Does Not Scan. You can skip the steps that you have already tried. Try the scanning app in Step 7 of the document. Let me know if you were able to scan with the app.

If the issue persists, try these steps: Network Scanner Connection is Lost (Windows). If you are still having issues, connect the printer by a USB connection to the computer and try scanning again.

Let me know if you were scanning using the Windows Vista operating system. It may be a scanning port that is closed on the router that may be causing this issue. This will rule out a software issue also.

If you appreciate the help, click the "Accept as Solution" and the "Thumbs Up". Please keep me posted. Regards,
