Hi @steveg111111111,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP app on iOS not seeing your printer even though printing works. Let’s go through a few checks.

Before we proceed, please confirm:

Is your iPad connected to the same WiFi network as the printer?

Are you using a VPN on the iPad?

Meanwhile, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Confirm Same Network (2.4 GHz Check)

  • On the printer, print a Network Information page.
  • Note the WiFi network name (SSID).
  • On your iPad, go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
  • Confirm it is connected to the exact same network name.
  • If your router combines 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, ensure both devices are on the same band.

Note: AirPrint can work across bands, but the HP app requires both devices on the same local network segment.

Step 2: Disable VPN or Private Relay

  • On the iPad, open Settings.
  • Turn off VPN if enabled.
  • If using iCloud Private Relay, disable it temporarily.
  • Close and reopen the HP app.
  • Check if the printer appears.
  • VPN or network privacy features can block device discovery.

Step 3: Restart Printer and Router

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the router for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the router back in and wait for the internet to stabilize.
  • Turn the printer back on.
  • Reopen the HP app and check again.

Step 4: Reset Printer Network Settings

  • Turn the printer on.
  • Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel (X) buttons together for 5 seconds.
  • Wait for the blue light to blink.
  • Open the HP app on the iPad.
  • Choose Add Printer and complete setup again.

Step 5: Check Local Network Permission (iOS)

  • On the iPad, open Settings.
  • Scroll down and select the HP app.
  • Ensure “Local Network” is enabled.
  • Ensure Bluetooth is enabled.
  • Reopen the HP app.

The HP app must have local network permission to detect the printer for scanning.

I hope this helps.
