I've always been partial to HP Laserjets because I've just seen so many of them in workplaces for so many years.
However, a coworker swears by Brother.
I'm looking for a medium use laserjet for a non-profit that will hopefully give them some years of trouble-free use.
I'm going between the HP LaserJet Pro M402dw and Brother HL-L2340DW
any tips?

Those two models are not in the same range, M402dw is a higher level printer that HL-L2340DW.
You need to calculate by yourself a cost per page for each model including printer price + consumable price for printing 10000 pages. Also, take notice of the warranty period, the longer the better.
