I am Recving the error message on the display stating "USB Device needs to much power to run" When there is no device plugged in. I have tried replacing the Formatter, LVPS, FW Update, and Partial Wipe; with the end result ending the same. The message is not logged onto the error log. has anyone else had this issue? my next point of action is to replace the DC Controller.

Are you getting this message on printers front panel? Is printer functional, can it copy and print?

I had something similar but the message was on PC not on the printer.

Hi titusc,

Do you use any 3rd party hardware in your printer, like a Near Field Communication device ?

If you do, remove it and do a format disk and reload the latest firmware.

Check the front usb port and cable if it not seated properly or if it is damaged.

I hope some of these may help you,

Cheers!

Thanks. They're using a is thumb drive, to run a invoice software. I will try to re format the hard drive, and check the front usb connection. That is under the display?

Yess i am getting the message on the front display. the machine prints, and scans just fine.

I have seen the messages on PC's before as well. What was the fix on this, if you don't mind me asking?

Yes, the front USB port is under the display screen. It is easy to access there, that black plastic cover just pops out. Check that usb cable from both ends (one under the screen and the other goes to the formatter).

We are having the exact same problem with a HP MFP M880. Recving the error message on the display stating "USB Device needs to much power to run" When there is no device plugged in. We have this error since we connected the
HP Booklet Maker/Finisher to the printer. This original HP accessorie is NOT connected to an USB Port but to a special port on the side of the printer made to connect this type of accessories.

We realy do not know what do do, have waited several firmware-updates now using the latest one 4.6.0.1.

Does anyone have an Idea how I can pass this to HP first level support?

Thank you
