I have just returned from a trip and hooked my laptop back up only to find that I cannot get this laser printer to connect to it.   It was just fine in December.   I've just spent 3 hours with Dell troubleshooting and they could not fix it, and they tried everything.   Dell has ascertained that there's nothing wrong with the computer - they've updated and installed everything that they could.    Is it possible the driver is corrupt???

Or, since I'm using a refilled cartridge (which I've always used with this printer) is that now causing a problem so that I am unable to print???

Help!

First off how is the printer connected.  USB, network or what?  Second on the printer there is a control panel.  Go to the menu on the printer and then reports and try to print a config page.  Does it print or do you have an error message.  If it prints you need to make sure the interface connection at the back of the printer is not broken and the cable you are using is ok.  If you get an error message or the printer does not print, report back telling us what happens so you can get further help.

USB connection to laptop.    Went to reports, demo page - nothing happens.  It goes back to ready.

Unless you are doing something wrong you may have a hardware issue.  Take the printer and remove all cables except the power cable and turn the printer off.  First perform the engine test instructions contained in the attached file.  If the test is successful, then perform the NVRAM reset with the instructions contained in the attached file.  Then on the printer control panel go to thr reports menu and choose the config page or demo page and hit the enter key to peform the function.  Does it print or do you get the same where nothing happens and it goes back to ready.  Also when the printer is on ready and if you open the toner door and then close it does the printer motor turn for a few seconds.  If the engne test does not work and since you say the printer comes to ready that would indicate you have an issue with the printer's dc controller and you will need to have the printer serviced.  If the engine test works and you perform the NVRAM reset and you still can not get the printer to print a test page from the reports menu, then you probably have an issue with the formatter.

I ran the Duplex engine test, however, it only printed on one side.  Did not go on to the NVRAM yet because of the Caution warning.  Didn't know if I should do that or not -- yet.

If you still can not run a test page from the reports menu, then I would do the NVRAM reset.  You are connecting using usb and all it will do it put everything back to factory defaults like you received the printer out of the box.  If after the NVRAM reset it does not print any internal reports, then I would think the formatter has gone bad.

Okay, thank you.  I'll try it.
