HP Laserjet Pro M1536dnf
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Problem: error message says :Host for 32 bit applications stopped working

Normally my print jobs just spool out and print without a problem.
But, when I print from two of my applications I get get a Print/General dialog box to Select a printer.
That is the first sign of a problem.

If I select HP Laserjet M1530 MFP Series PCL6 I get an error box:
Print driver host for 32 bit applications has stopped working.

If I choose to print to Microsoft XPS Document I can save the document and then that document will print.
I use Win7-64 and current HP Print Driver download (dated 2015).

@vonsdtw,

Thanks for waiting,

After reviewing your post and thorough research by our R&D team, we have few finding which should help you in resolving this issue.

This is more related to your application specific and not with the drivers.  This application may be using vector graphic, Charts  and different fonts or PS fonts may not work on pcl drivers.

Solution/Workaround

Solution1 :

  1. Save the file or chart on pc and then print . (Instead of printing directly from that application)

Solution 2

Change the Print Data Optimization , go to the following settings:

  1. Go to printer properties of LJ M1536 ->Preference->Advanced tab->Printer feature->
  2. Print Data Optimization- Try Changing , By default its Auto (the default setting), Change it  to

◦ Optimize for Raster

◦ Optimize for Text and Vector
(Toggle b/w two to check)

  1. Click apply and ok to save the setting and then try printing and check

Solution 3.

Download HP Universal Print Driver for Windows PostScript (64-bit ) 6.4.1.22169 which is available on drivers support page.
Extract the driver in folder, Do add a printer and give the path of driver folder where you extracted to installed the PS driver. Then try printing.

Please try the steps suggested and get back to us with the results as this will help me in further assisting you.

@vonsdtw,

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I see from your post you need assistance with the printer issue. No worries, I'll be glad to help you.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?

Did you try to run the Print and Scan doctor?

Are you having this issue only while printing from one applications or from all the applications?

Are you able to make a copy from the printer?

Did you try to do a root level uninstall and reinstall of the printer drivers?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Let’s start by performing a network power drain. Follow the steps below:

Turn off all the devices connected on your network including the PC, Smartphones, printer, modem (if present) and router. Make sure all the devices in the network are turned off / unplugged.

Wait for 2-3 minutes.

Now turn on the modem if present. Wait till all the lights are steady and idle.

Then turn on the router. Again wait for a couple of minutes so that the lights are all steady.

Then turn on the PC and other devices.

If you are facing any issue while using the printer then try using HP Print and Scan Doctor (PSDR). PSDR is an automated tool which can diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. Please go to this link: HP Printers - Using HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows)  to download and run HP PSDR. Once you open the program, select your printer and click on “Fix Printing” to automatically diagnose and fix the issue.

Let’s try and make a “photocopy” to determine whether the issue is with the printer or not. Place a document on the scanner glass and choose “Copy” option. If the printer is making a good copy, then the printer hardware is fine.

If the copy comes out fine, then I would suggest here is to uninstall the printer driver from the root level and then reinstall them by following the below steps:

  • Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
  • Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
  • Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
  • Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
  • Now check for issue resolution.
  • If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:
  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Laserjet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Please click here to download and install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Could you please respond to this post with the details and with the results of the troubleshooting as this will help me in further assisting you.

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I will answer your questions and also do a short video showing my two applications and the attempt to print.

Your questions and my answers:

Note:
All printer / faxing / copying etc functions form all programs/applications work ok except printing from two of my applications give the error.
My printer can be On or Off when I want to print.
I get the error message immediately.

Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?
No

Did you try to run the Print and Scan doctor?
Yes

Are you having this issue only while printing from one applications or from all the applications?
Only two of my applications will not print.
As I mentioned in my post I have two applications that give this error when I print from them.

Additional information, they are:

Hello,

I seen your private message to me.

I did not see a reply button to ask a follow up question so I will ask here.

My printer was purchased July 2011 with a 3 yar replacement plan.

So, it is out of warranty.

Naturally I thought this problem could be fixed in the forum.

For this problem if I call HP support will I have to pay for support?

 Jeet_Singh,

First up, I want to thank you and your R&D department for solving my problem.
Your help is very much appreciated.

Your proposed solutions 1 and 2 did not work.

Your proposed solution 3 did work (screenshot).

I am just wondering why the HP Universal Print Driver PS x64 6.4.1.22169 was needed in my case?

Naturally, when downloading and installing the print driver for your printer from HP the assumption is that it contains all the software do all printing tasks (print/fax/copy/OCR etc).
In my case all was ok except recently with one specific print job which threw the "Host for 32 bit applications stopped working" error.

So 2 final questions:

Was my original default
HP Laser Jet M1530 MFP Series PLC 6
printer setup supposed to have the ability to print Postscript print jobs including 32 bit Postscript jobs?

I am looking to soon replace my HP MFP with a newer model.
Will the default driver that comes with a newer model HP printers have built in support for 32 bit Postscript jobs?
