How can I change the printer to automatically print, double-sided. LaserJet pro 9120

Welcome to the HP Community --

There is no way to set the printer to Always print 2-sided.

You can set the printer to default to 2-sided when other factors do not interfere or prevent the setting from being used.

For example, Duplex printing is supported on limited paper sizes / types.

Within those parameters, the printer and EWS supports setting Paper > Trays and Print Default Options

(You can) set the printing preferences / settings to "prefer" or default to duplex printing when it is supported on the paper size and paper type.

Details / Examples

======================================

Alternate EWS format - Select newer InkJet printers and select LaserJet printers

Open your Browser

Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Paper > Trays > click on Tray to configure

Next (as available)

Section Print > Default Print Options > Select default options / tray

Tray and Paper – Paper Size / Paper Type / Paper Weight

-- Notes and Reminders --

Depending on the printer model, the Printer Control Panel touchscreen might provide access to Paper Size / Type settings immediately after the paper is (re)loaded into the appropriate printer intake tray or when the tray is opened and then closed.

EWS (Embedded Web Server) provides access and control for Settings, including Tray and Paper.

Paper Size, Type, and Weight loaded in the printer tray must be supported for use in that tray.

If asked enter the printer’s PIN number –

The default PIN might be located on the back or inside the printer (ink access area).

HP Smart / HP App Mobile might require that paper size / type is rechecked / adjusted before content is opened for print.

Newer printer?  Touchscreen Printer Control Panel locked against making changes?  Try username "admin" and the PIN located on the sticker on the inside of the front door of the printer.

What else?

  • If you are running a supported version of Windows

AND

  • If you install the full driver printer software,

then

  • You can set the Printing Preferences a Shortcut (Template or Custom)  to "prefer" duplex printing on supported paper size / types

 Printing_Preferences_Custom_Shortcut_Letter_Duplex_Black_1Printing_Preferences_Custom_Shortcut_Letter_Duplex_Black_1

AND

  • You can set Printing Properties > Tab Advanced > Printing Defaults to default to the selected (duplex) Shortcut set in Printing Preferences that prints duplex.   Printer_Properties_Reprint_13Printer_Properties_Reprint_13

All that -- yes -- and it's still possible that you will run into situations where you must check / verify / adjust the settings to get what you want.
