Hi HP tech.

I have a similar problem with my HP Laser Jet Pro M26nw printer.  when I first got it a few months ago this didn't seem like a problem as I was able to email my printer and have it print out what i wanted waiting for me when I got home.

Now, it seems that there is no alternative to "shut down after inactivity" greater then 8 hours.  So if I haven't used the printer for more than 8 hours, it turns off (not sleep mode, turns off!) i can no longer print anything by email.  Same for when I am home, I need to turn the printer on again at the printer power button for it to print documents.

How do I turn off or disable shut down after inactivity?  I don't mind sleep mode but turning the printer off after 8 hrs of inactivity makes the email over the web printing unusable

thanks

@berniefyre, Welcome to HP Support Community!

The default value is 4 hours. However, we can delay the shutdown.

Follow the steps below to delay shutdown-

1. On the printer control panel, open the Setup menu.

2. Open the following menus:

  • System Setup
  • Energy Settings
  • Delay Shut Down

3. When Delay When Ports Are Active option is selected, the printer will not shut down unless all ports are inactive. An active network link or USB connection will prevent the printer from shutting down.

Refer to the User Guide pages 60 to 62 for more details

I've always had the delay shutdown while ports active box checked.  initially in the  first few months it didn't seem to be a problem but this last month or so has had me reach over to restart it overtime.

for now it seems to be working

as a kluge I've plugged it in to a smart plug that I can turn off  then on with my phone to allow the printer to be restarted remotely

none the less, hopefully it will stay on now

thanks
