How do I renew expired certificate

I have HP color laser printer model MFP M277c6. When I try to print either any apple laptop, it won’t print and tells me that the certificate has expired. It was working for many years up to about a week ago. With apple ts tried removing snd adding it again to both laptop, still gives me the same msg. Tried to run troubleshooting using the laptop, it won’t even run, it says is offline, but the printer is online (wi-fi)

This issue is common on older HP LaserJet models when the printer’s HTTPS certificate expires, which macOS checks during secure printing. Here’s how to fix it:

Why It Happens

Your printer uses an internal web server (EWS) for secure communication. The certificate is self-signed and expires after a few years. macOS rejects it, causing the “certificate expired” error.

Steps to Resolve

1. Access the Printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS)

• Find the printer’s IP address: 
  • On the printer control panel: Setup → Reports → Network Configuration Page.
  • Or print the Network Configuration Page.
• Enter the IP address in your browser (e.g., http://192.168.x.x).
   

2. Update or Regenerate the Certificate

• In EWS, go to: Networking → Security → Certificates (or similar).
• Select Create New Self-Signed Certificate.
• Apply changes and restart the printer.
   

3. Update macOS Printer Settings

• Remove the printer from System Settings → Printers & Scanners.
• Add it again using IP or Bonjour.
• If prompted, accept the new certificate.
   

4. Update Printer Firmware

• Go to HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277 series | HP® Support and download the latest firmware.
• Install via EWS or HP Easy Admin.

Alternative Quick Fix

If you don’t need HTTPS:

• In EWS, disable HTTPS and use HTTP for printing.
• This bypasses certificate validation but is less secure.
