I have an HP Officejet 4630 that is CONSTANTLY freezing up (requiring me to pull the plug and then plug it back in) and I want to update the firmware. I have downloaded the latest firmware (Dec 6 2015, MYM1FN1418AR) to my computer. I tried several times to run the firmware EXE in order to install it on my printer. It gets to a point where it SEES my printer (on a home network at 192.168.1.3) but IT WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO SELECT THE PRINTER in order to proceed!!!! Very frustrating! Note that this is a wireless printer, and it is connected to my home network wirelessly (same as my laptop computer, which is where I am attempting to run the EXE file). I can ping the printer from my laptop so I know everything is connected OK. Why won't this work? How do I update the firmware? Do I have to do it via USB??
Thanks.

Your question is very relevant and most valid. The suggestion provided in the video tutorial above is very lame and most obvious. This is a technical forum. Your problem requires the attention of an experienced mind.
I too have the same problem. I have a printer, an OfficeJet Pro 8610. Occasionally, and inexplicably, the printer dissapears from the Devices and Printers control panel of the operating system. When i attempt to reinstall the driver, which i have downloaded from HP, the installation utility does locate the network printer and displays its name and ip address (dynamic ip). Yet, the installation utility cannot seem to link up to the printer and install drivers. Thus, it aborts the installation at the end with an error message stating it cannot find the printer. Most frustrating and mind boggling that it cannot find the priner after it already lcated and displayed the printer's IP at the begining of the process, which I can easily ping with a postive reply.
My hunch is that HP has a very poor printer intallation utility. What the utility should do is find the printer, which it does, then compeltely delete old drivers, cleanup old entries on the registry and then reinstall the printer anew. But it fails miserably to do this.
I will manually do the tasks of deleteing old registry values associated with the HP Officejet, delete old drivers, remove any other old references of the printer in the OS, restart the computer and then reinstall the printer. I think that should do. Once I finish installing the printer, then I am banking on the firmware update utility to do its job and update the printer's firmware.
