  • My HP printer shows up when scanning my home WiFi connections.  It shows up as unsecured.
  • Other posts on this blog say it is a "second" ad-hoc network connection and that it can be shut off if HP Direct Wireless printing is turned off.
  • I have gone into the web configuration page of my printer (it is connected to my iMac via USB cable) and made sure Direct Print is turned off.
  • I have also used the printer display screen to configure Direct Print as being off.
  • The "ad hoc" network still appears in my network scans and on my phones when connecting to a wifi network.

Note:  my printer is connected to my iMac via USB and it is connected to my home wifi network for wireless printing from all  my devices and everything works hunky-dory.

Has anybody solved or answered this one?  Several blog entires over the years imply that shutting off Direct Print should do it but it is not working for me.

Anybody's input much appreciated!

I reviewed your post and I understand that you want to stop the printer from broadcasting it’s SSID.

I’d love to help!

Turn off the wireless direct options from the printer front panel menu and it should stop broadcasting the SSID.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Hello The Fossette:

Your response makes me feel as thoiugh you did not read my original message but rather just the subject line?

As I explained, I have shut off wireless direct print options both on the front printer panel and on the imbedded webpage for the printer, but it still broadcasts a wireless network throughout my home.

Is there anything to the theory this is an "as-hoc" connection tht cannot be turned off?

It looks like a firmware update combined wiht turning Direct Print off at the printer screen may have worked!  The wireless SSD from the printer is no longer being broadcast.

Thanks very much.

With me the SSID was broadcasted with WIFI direct off. Going in to the panel on the printer, switching it on, confirm that I could now connect, and then switch it off again worked.
