All suggestions say to go to setup - preferences - quiet mode. There is no line on my M254dw screen for quiet mode.  How do I get out of quiet mode and print at normal speed? TIA.

SOLVED!  While I appreciate all the suggestions to fix this, none worked. There is no setting for "quiet" on the M254dw, The solution was absurdly simple.  Set the paper setting on the print software to NORMAL.

It seems that a few days ago we printed business cards on heavy stock and set the paper thickness setting appropriately - and forgot to reset it to normal.  Reset to normal paper and the printer is back to it's speedy self.  My apologies if someone actually did mention this and I overlooked it.

Hi @HighCirrus,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that to exit Quiet Mode on your HP Color LaserJet Pro M254dw and print at normal speed, you can adjust the setting directly through your computer using the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS).

Method 1: Via the Embedded Web Server (EWS):

This is the easiest way to access all advanced settings on your M254dw if the touchscreen menus seem hidden:

  1. Find your Printer's IP Address: Press the Wireless and Information buttons together on the control panel to print a network configuration page. Find the IPv4 or IP address listed on the page.

  2. Open a Web Browser: Type that exact IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.15) into your browser's address bar and hit Enter to access the printer's internal site.

  3. Navigate to Settings: Click on the Settings tab at the top.

  4. Turn Off Quiet Mode: Look for the Preferences section, select Quiet Mode, choose Off, and click Apply.

Method 2: Via Computer Print Settings:

Sometimes Quiet Mode is accidentally triggered by print drivers on your PC:

  1. Open your computer's settings and go to Devices and Printers.

  2. Right-click on your HP M254dw and select Printing Preferences or Printer Properties.

  3. Look for the Paper/Quality tab or Finishing tab, and ensure that Quiet Mode (or Quiet Print) is disabled or set to Off.

  4. Select Plain Paper and Normal print quality, then click Apply.

Method 3: Cold Restart:

If the printer's settings are stuck due to a glitch, you can reset the system configuration:

  1. Turn the printer off.

  2. Unplug the power cord directly from the wall outlet.

  3. Wait at least 60 seconds.

  4. Plug it back in and turn it on.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
