EHP LaserJet 4250n
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently purchased a new cartridge and it would not fit. Since then my old cartridge won't work and I get the printer status memory error. It will still print the printer details like configuration and event log just fine.

This is a HP LaserJet 4250n printer. It is old according to HP so they don't do troubleshooting or offer tech support. It is a very good working printer. I don't like the idea of purchasing a new cartridge and finding out the printer is bad. Has anyone has this problem before?

Likely trying to install a wrong cartridge has damaged the contacts on the printer that read the supplies chip. If you were supplied the wrong cartridge by a vendor, they are responsible for the error. The contacts are located in the cartridge cavity on the top right side. They may be knocked out of position and just require reseating or they may be broken and require replacement.

I thank you very much for the information. I found the paper clip looking device and it seems to be in order, however while searching the web, I found and purchased some printer cartridge chips and when they get here, I will let you know if replacing the chip will do the trick. It is possible that the old chip got damaged while trying to install it.
