Hi, in the last year or so, my printer has started to print everything, including photos blue. For instance, if the image on screen is pink, it will print out a mute blue/lilac colour. I have tried changing settings on the iPad and the printer and the app and both are pretty limited. Up until last year i could just go onto my laptop and print, but since work has changed to iPad only, i am no longer able to do this.

I have tried looking this up online to see if there are fixes for it, but nothing seems to change it, in fact some solutions lead to issues with my cartridges etc, which i seem to have now fixed. I have all 4 new cartridges and they are virtually all full, as like i said, it is predominantly using just blue and black with the occasional (very) yellows.

I did email a pic to my daughter to see if she could print from her laptop, but she had to turn the levels up to such a high vivid intensity on screen that it looked ridiculous and the printing result wasn’t much better than from the iPad.

I am literally at my wits end, no longer able to print photos or work documents. Previously the printer did a really professional and clear looking job for me.

Thanks

Lisa

Hi @L1SA_DEV1LLE

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

Thank you for explaining the issue in detail and for sharing the sample images. I understand how frustrating this must be, especially since the printer previously produced excellent-quality prints. Based on the symptoms you've described, this appears to be a color reproduction issue rather than a problem with the iPad, and I'll be happy to help you troubleshoot it further to identify the root cause. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Page

  • Load plain white paper.
  • From the printer control panel:
  • Setup
  • Tools
  • Print Quality Report (or Print Diagnostic Page)
  • Check the color blocks.
  • Is the Yellow block solid?
  • Are there streaks or is it completely missing?
  • If yellow is missing, continue below.

Step 2: Run Printhead Cleaning

From the printer:

  • Setup
  • Printer Maintenance
  • Clean Printhead

Run it 2–3 times, allowing each cleaning cycle to finish.

After each cleaning, print another diagnostic page.

Step 3: Check Cartridge Vent

  • Even new cartridges can fail if the vent is blocked.
  • Remove the yellow cartridge and verify:
  • The orange protective tape has been completely removed.
  • The tiny vent on top is not covered by packaging or adhesive.
  • Reinstall it firmly.

Step 4: Clean the Printhead (if your model has a removable printhead)

If your HP printer uses a removable printhead:

  • Remove all cartridges.
  • Remove the printhead.
  • Clean the electrical contacts with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Reinstall everything.

Step 5: Align the Printhead

After cleaning:

  • Go to setup
  • Go to Printer Maintenance
  • Select Align Printhead

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists. Please share the Print Diagnostic page and the Printer Model you are using.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi, thanks for your reply, I have tried some of the relevant steps you have suggested, but to no avail. Please see the attached pictures.

I am at my wits end for what to do, I previously was able to use my printer for my professional work, and i have tolerated this far too long now. It’s really depressing as i have tried to repair it by following you tubes and online fixes etc, but nothing has worked.

The diagnostics page seems to look okay, but the print quality page does not. I have checked for updates, it says i am up to date. It has only gotten bad since i switched to apple, I have a Mac, iMac, iPad and iPhone and all are printing terribly and because i have no non apple products or android/windows friends i cannot find out if Apple is the issue.

I have tried removing the printer and the app from my iPad to no avail.

Thanks

Hello
At present, there may be a problem with the laser of the printer. It is recommended to contact the local repair center for assistance in handling the issue.
Thank you.

What do you mean by a laser problem, what makes you think that please?

Hello
It may be that the laser prism is dirty, this problem is very common.
