laserjet 2420

I have twice put in a new motherboard in my laserjet 2420d to make it a 2420dn.  It worked well, conneted to my computers by only being connected to router, then once it was rebooted a second time, it lost its connectivity to network.  I did the same thing a few years ago with the exact same outcome.   What's going on?  Why does it revert back after working so well?

The identity stored on the DC controller overwrites the identity on the formatter. Why not simply install a JetDirect network card in the available EIO slot on the standard formatter?
