Just purchased this new machine. Having issues printing a single check. Works fine with full sheet of checks (3) but when I only have one (last one on the page) the check gets "jammed" in the printer and won't print.

This sounds like it might be a paper size mismatch between the print driver on the computer and the paper size in the printer.
Are you printing from tray 1 (the bypass tray) or trying to feed them from tray 2?
Is it an 8.5x11 sheet of paper, or is this some type of perforated paper that your tearing off previously printed checks?

I'm a little confused. So it works fine if you print 3 checks which is an 8.5x11 sheet.
When you print just the one check- are you tearing it off a the perf so the paper size would be roughly 2.83x11 (3.6x8.5)?

I had to go to the HP store to find the supported paper sizes for this printer. I could not find them in the User Guide other materials available to customers. The printer is most likely jamming because of the internal timing. You would need to try and set up a custom page size for the exact sized piece of paper, or try to use one of the supported page sizes shown below. Due to the way the paper you are printing on is handled inside the machine, it may jam if it cant correctly hand off from one set of rollers to the next. 4x8.5 would be 120cmx255cm. You would most likely need to print this from Tray 1, feeding the 4" wide piece of paper. Trial and error and you may be able to do it 🙂
Please don't try taping the single check to a piece of paper and feeding it, the page will make turns as it goes through the device, and tape stuck in a color printer is not good 😛
