Hi,

I’m trying to print .TXT files directly from the USB stick connected to the printer (HP Color LaserJet Pro M454dw).

Unfortunately, files are not recognised by the printer and printing is not possible.

If possible, I want to avoid connecting the USB stick to the PC.

Thank you in advance for support.

S.

Hi @Sylvia79

The HP Color LaserJet Pro M454dw is capable of printing files directly from a USB stick. However, it typically supports image files like PDFs and JPEGs for direct printing from USB. Unfortunately, .TXT files are often not recognized in this process because they are plain text files rather than formatted print-ready documents. Here are some options you can consider:

Convert .TXT Files to PDF

  1. Use an Online Tool or Software:

    • Convert the .TXT files into PDF format using online conversion tools or software on a computer.
    • Save the converted PDF files back to your USB stick. These can usually be printed directly from an HP printer.
  2. Direct USB Printing Steps:

    • Ensure the PDF files are saved in the root directory of your USB drive (not within folders).
    • Insert the USB stick into the printer's USB port.
    • On the printer's control panel, use the menu to navigate to Print from USB and select the PDF file to print.

Alternative Methods

  • HP ePrint:

    • If converting files isn't an option, you might consider using HP ePrint services to send documents via email directly to your printer without needing a computer.
  • Embedded Web Server (EWS):

    • Use the printer’s Embedded Web Server to upload documents for printing. Access the EWS by entering the printer's IP address into a web browser while connected to the same network.

If these suggestions do not resolve your issue and you wish to avoid using a computer entirely, using a mobile app like HP Smart or leveraging cloud-based printing solutions could serve as feasible alternatives, assuming the documents can be converted into supported file types beforehand.
