Trying to resolve a problem for a freind whereby the printer worked fine on Windows 7 until the Windows 10 upgrade. Despite trying all standard approaches the printer still does not seem to recognise the PC. Suspect it may need drivers for Windows 10. Tried to download something entitled IA-64 all which seems to be a zip file which frankly I can't see how that could action an update of drivers. (It contains a series of files)
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

If the printer is using a parallel to usb adapter which I assume it is, then go to the web site of the manufacturer of the adapter and see if they have a updated driver for the adapter. Most problems relate to the adapter. Another method is to install a parallel adapter in the computer if it has an expansion slot and connect just using the parallel cable without the adapter.

The IA-64 architecture is a server architecture, the driver you will want will be the x64 architecture driver. This is delivered through Windows Update, or you can use the driver wizard at http://www.hp.com/go/tools.

Thanks Bob
Well I first did a trial on my laptop (windows 10). the first download did not produce a result - then the nest day as part of the usaul Windows updates there appeared an update for the printer. I could then print successfully.
Attempting the same procedure on my friend's PC resulted in a negative. Tried to identify the appropriate downloads on thr PC and then perhaps attempt a re-load but there was nothing obvious,
Any ideas?

Check the parallel port settings in device manager, look for a use interrupt setting.

Thank you but I'm no PC expert, just an ordinary user with a little nous!
Looking under the categories of the Device Manager could you indicate where I might find the parallel port settiing? And then what action should i take? Opening up the various obvious sub menus I find no reference to this.
I do however appreciate your help

Thanks for the response.
Unfortunately my friend only has the USB cable - no lpt port cable.
I concur with comment that Microsoft really need to come into the real world where we live! This friend is seriously ill (heart and lungs), he was quite happy with Windows 7 yet without his permission the PC's OS was changed to 10 He's not very adept at computers and why should he be?. The printer worked fine on 7 and now he can't use it to run his business!
It's a mystery as to why the drivers update worked on my lap top and not his PC. Anyone gone any ideas how to download the uodates again or offer a "work around"?

It might be possible to back off the windows 10 upgrade.
