Hi @Macuse-78,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It’s not uncommon for older printers like the HP LaserJet P1006 to become disconnected after you upgrade your Mac, like to macOS 26 (Tahoe). Here's what's going on and how to get it working again:

Why the Printer Appears but Won’t Print

  • The LaserJet P1006 is no longer officially supported on macOS versions newer than 12 Monterey, including macOS 26 Tahoe.
  • The model lacks AirPrint support, so it relies on legacy HP drivers that are incompatible with newer macOS versions.

Workarounds to Restore Printing

1. Enable Local Network Permissions

macOS updates can block network printing:

  • Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network.
  • Make sure permissions are turned on for Printers & Scanners and HP Smart (if installed).

2. Reset the Print System

  • Go to System Settings → Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or Ctrl-click) the printer list and choose “Reset printing system…”.
  • Restart your Mac before moving to the next step.

3. Install a Generic PCL Driver

⚠️ Alternative Solution

If the generic driver doesn’t work for your needs:

  1. Connect the printer to an older Mac or Windows PC that still supports HP P1006 drivers.
  2. Share the printer over the network.
  3. Your macOS 26 device can print to it as a network printer without local driver support.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
