Hi!

I was trying to use the "scan to email" feature as I've done many, many times!  Today, I received the following message, "Username or password is incorrect. Ensure both user account and password are valid".  I have never had to use a username and password to use this copier/fax/email!!!! I never gave it a username or a password in the past two years since I started using this equipment. What I do now? PLEASE HELP!!!!

Just FYI -  I am not sure if my Windows 10 is a 32-bit or 64-bit.

THANK YOU in advance!!

Best,

LOJ44

I’ve run into that same message before — it usually happens when the printer’s email authentication settings reset after a firmware or software update.

Try opening the HP Smart app or the Embedded Web Server (EWS) for your printer. Under Scan → Scan to Email Setup, check if your outgoing mail (SMTP) settings are still saved. Sometimes the username and password fields get cleared automatically. If you were using your personal email (like **bleep** or Outlook), make sure you have “Allow less secure apps” disabled and generate an App Password that’s what you should enter instead of your regular password. After saving those settings, restart both your printer and router, then test Scan to Email again. It usually fixes the problem.

Also, if you’re not sure whether your Windows 10 is 32-bit or 64-bit, right-click This PC  Properties, and you’ll see it under “System type.”
