macOS 10.12 Sierra

I have a LaserJet Pro M422dw connected to my iMac using the current version of Sierra.  A couple weeks ago, after operating perfectly since I got it, it became unpredictable and ultimately useless.  I have installed a new driver but the problem continues.  The most common thing is that I get a message to load tray 1 although tray 2 is the primary one.  I can't seem to get around this.  Other times, I sent a print and it just sits there "saying" that it is processing or that it is printing the document but never gets further but remains in the queue.  Presently, it will read “Printing Document” but nothing happens.  When I restart it and try again, I get a message to load tray 1!  Tray 2 has paper in it.  This has become more and more confusing to me.  At the moment, it does not print thus is useless.  How can I get it back up and running.
