Laser jet m254dw
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

I called tech support about an issue with my printer ink and since letting her remotely take over my computer my printer is no longer recognizing my toner. I think she did some kind of update. Can someone help me get the old firmware back on this model.

Hi @sherita1704

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Try these steps -

1) Take out the cartridges.

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Wait for 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not to a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Download and install the firmware update for Win 8.1, 32-bit OS from this link

If the issue still persists, I have sent you a private message with the steps to reset the printer. Check next to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

@KudosToAll,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details and I would appreciate if you could, perhaps elaborate on your concern.

  • What is the exact model for your printer?
  • What is the operating system you are using?
  • What are the steps you have performed?

Look forward to hearing from you and you have a great day!

Take care.

Cheers!

My compatible HP toners which worked fine before the auto firmware upgrade now reports “Memory Supply Error”.

Printer: M254dw

O/S: Windows 10 Pro (64bit)

steps performed: power off, wait 10 mins, insert original HP Cartridge, wait 10mins, power off, wait 10mins, re- insert compatible toners, power on, and then see “Memory Supply Error”.

Hi,

I think you are perhaps confused. Memory Supply Error pertains to printer rejecting the compatible toner cartridges. I.e. no longer accepting the chip on the toner preventing the use of compatible toner cartridges from other manufacturers). In Europe this is against the law.

@KudosToAll,

Please refer to the below article for the printers affected by the dynamic security update and none of the Laserjet printers were affected.

I recommend you update the printer firmware following the steps in the below article and check if it helps.
