I tried all these solutions and still get the exact same error on a Windows 7 64 bit machine. Except my bar goes up to 92%. Apparently the problem has not been solved HP.

Get Microsoft Security Essentials from its web site. There is Malware that stops the install. Try it !  If not restore everything.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! This fixed the problem I've been having. I previously tried what was suggested in another thread (since the problem first began with the scanning software not recognizing the hardware, but print was still working), then after uninstalling the print driver I was unable to reinstall it. I figured something else was conflicting with install, but simply turning off Norton didn't do the trick - your advice of turning off all services in msconfig did the trick!

I've tryed the solution but I still can't install the Printer.  I get the exact same message.  I'm running a laptop with Windows 7 x64.  Can anyone help?
