I am researching laser printers. The problem may very well be for all printers on HP website. I see speeds, printer functions. not until i get to a purchase page can i even see paper sizes and weights, feed styles and other data. I am looking for a 300gsm color laser printer and I have to go to the shop/buy section to look through every printer to find a heavyweight manual feed printer? Nonsense. I cannot waste my time looking for this when others provide that data.

Hi @aefriot

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for your persistence and for highlighting this gap. I completely understand how frustrating and time-consuming it is to dig through purchase pages just to find basic paper compatibility.

You're absolutely right—finding detailed paper handling specs like 300gsm support and manual feed options should be much easier. For HP color laser printers, this information is often buried in datasheets or user guides, not on the main product pages.

Let’s make this easier for you by outlining how to locate heavyweight paper support and pointing you to the right documentation.

How to Find Paper Weight and Feed Style Support for HP Color Laser Printers

To identify which HP color laser printers support 300gsm media and manual feed, follow these steps:

1. Use the HP Product Specifications Page (PSG)

This is where HP lists detailed specs like media weight range, input tray types, and manual feed support.

  • Visit: HP Product Specifications (PSG)
  • Enter the printer model (e.g., “HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479fdw”).
  • Click on the “Specifications” tab.
  • Scroll to Paper Handling or Media Handling.
  • Look for:
    • Media weight supported (Tray 1 / Manual Feed) – this is where 300gsm support would be listed.
    • Media types – check for “cardstock”, “heavyweight”, or “glossy”.

2. Check the User Guide or Datasheet

These documents often include the most precise media specs.

  • On the same support page, go to “User Guides” or “Manuals”.
  • Open the User Guide or Datasheet PDF.
  • Use Ctrl+F to search for “300 g/m²”, “manual feed”, or “media weight”.

You're absolutely right to expect this information upfront, and I’m here to make that search easier and more efficient.
