HP Color LaserJet 2605dn
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have had a LaserJet 2605dn for ten years.  Recently I replaced my Dell desktop with a new HP Envy 860-007na.  Printing in black is perfect but the printer refuses to print any colour, just various shades of grey.  There is nothing wrong with the printer as a test print looks as good as it did when the printer was new ten years ago.

I have run HP Support Assistant and confirmed that PCL6 class driver UPD PCL 6 is installed.  I have also followed the advice to connect to a different USB port, in particular a USB2 one, but to no effect.  Support Assistant says that no updates are available.  I have checked all the usual settings but got nowhere.

It was running happily under Windows10 on the previous computer.

All suggestion will be very welcome.

Driver Issue:

  1. Open Printer Properties and verify that the print driver indicates color support in the driver on the General tab. If the Color: setting in the Features section on the General tab is set to No, the driver is not configured to print in color.

  2. If the Color: setting in the Features section on the General tab is set to No, click the Device Settings tab, and under Installable Options, click Automatic Configuration: Off (the default) to display the drop-down list, and then select Update Now to perform an Automatic Configuration. The driver sends an SNMP command to the printer to retrieve the device information.

  3.

If the Auto Configuration fails (UPD version 5.3 and later), the UPD will default to the Monochrome setting. To resolve this issue, manually change the printer type setting. On the Device Settings tab, click Device Type: Auto Detect to display the drop-down list and then select Color.

Many thanks.  Problem solved immediately.

I went to the Installable Options and it's completely greyed out.  How do I make changes?
