HP LJ Ent. M506
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Cannot get this error code to clear. I have done a cold reset and update the firmware. The only way to clear the code is to shut the printer down and restart it. Once, cleared you can print just fine whether it is a one page print job or a 100 page print job. But, as soon as the job is finished the error returns. I can print from tray 1 with no issues. The paper guides are set correctly, the tray is not overfilled. The little black plastic flag that hangs down is not broken or stuck. When, I print from tray 1, the pick rollers from tray 2 do not continue to rotate. So, I know that the tray 2 solenoid is not stuck. I ran paper path sensor tests and all pass (and the error pops as soons as they are done running!). Please help!! Thank you in advance.

Residual paper Jam in Tray 2.
This jam occurs when residual paper is detected at the Tray 2 feed sensor (SR11).
Recommended action
  1. Open Tray 2, remove any jammed paper, and then close the tray.
  2. Open and close the upper right door to allow the printer to attempt to clear the jam.
  3. Remove the paper from the tray and check that the paper tray size guides are properly set and that the tray is not over filled with paper.

  4. Make sure that the Tray 2 pickup, feed, and separation rollers are installed correctly and show no damage or wear.
  5. Clean or replace the pickup and/or feed rollers as needed.
    Part number: F2A68-67913
Use a damp, lint-free cloth to gently clean the rollers.
  6. Check the connectors at the sensor, feed motor, and the DC controller PCA.
  7. Open the following menus:
    • Administration
    • Troubleshooting
    • Diagnostic Tests
  8. Test SR11 using the Tray/Bin Manual sensor test to verify that the sensors are functioning correctly.
  9. Run the Tray 2 pickup/feed motor drive test to verify that the feed motor is functioning correctly (listen for the motor to activate). If it is not, replace the pickup assembly.
  10. If either of the previous steps fail, elevate the issue using the Standard Support Process for a possible printer replacement.
      note:
On-site technicians should check the following connections on the DC Controller before elevating the issue.
    (J157–SR11) (J110 and J144) — Tray 2 feed drive assembly and solenoid.

Paper path sensor test pass at the SR11 sensor. Paper guides are set correctly and the tray is not full. Pick up rollers are good. This printer only has about 1,400 printed docs on it. I have used compressed air to try and remove any residual dust/paper that may be blocking the SR11 sensor. But, that didn't help. I also ran some heavier card stock through on a couple of print jobs hoping to clear any small bits or trip the sensor flag back into position. That didn't work either. I am guessing the only thing to do is tear it down on the front half to see whats going on.

Yesterday I finally had a chance to tear into the M506. I was able to remove most of the front and expose the SR11 sensor. There is no residual paper pieces or build up of paper dust in this area. The sensor moves freely and is not stuck in any manner. I blew it out with compressed air to ensure that something was not buried down inside. Re-assembled the printer. And......same result! 13.A2.FF after a test print completes. I re-ran the paper path sensor test again. And, again, all sensors pass the test and then the error pops again. So, frustrating. If there is no residual paper, no errors on the paper path tests, the sensor is not stuck what the heck is it!?
