How do I secure my printer?  Do I do it with a password?   If so how?

Thank You.  Dennis

Dear Asmita,

Somehow, and I don't know how, sheer dumb luck I guess, I managed to 'stumble' across the solution by doing the following:    Wireless Icon: Wireless Menu: Wi Fi Protected Setup: Press PIN process!

Hi @dmgiansante

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

To better assist you - Are you trying to prevent others from printing to your printer?

If yes, the printer is only accessible to those devices that are connected to your home network. You may also look for these settings -

1) In the search box, type "Printers & Scanners".
2) Click on your printer from the list.
3) Click on "Manage".
4) Click on "Printer Properties".
5) Click on "Security" tab.
6) Click on "Deny" for Print option under "Permissions for Everyone".

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

Click the “Kudos, Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!

Have a great day!

Dear Asmita,

Actually what I want to do is safeguard my wireless printer from the Internet.  It shows up as unsecured.

I believe what you suggested is not what I'm looking for.

I 'think' I'm looking for a 'password' for my printer like I have for my router.  I have two laptops already set up wirelessly, my main one that has an ethernet cord to my router, and one to my wife's laptop in another room.

I hope I've explained better what I want.

Thank You for your response.  Dennis

Hi @dmgiansante

Thanks for replying.

I'm afraid, it is not possible to create a password for the printer. Any devices that are connected to the same network as your printer, will have access to print. HP regularly releases new printer firmware versions with product enhancements or issue fixes.

About the printer's security, I'd suggest ensuring the firmware of the printer is up to date. Download and install the firmware update from this link

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Dear Asmita,

On my printers screen I can press the Wireless Icon:  Wireless Menu:  Wi Fi Protected Setup:  Press PIN:  A PIN appears and  then a timer starts, but I can't proceed because I don't know what to do?  Does this help you, help me?
