The HP LaserJet Professional M1212nf mfp printer worked with Windows 10.  No problem. However, after updating to Windows 11, the printer quit working.  The HP website indicated that printers working in the Windows 10 environment should work in Windows 11.

Steps I already took included:

(1)  Unplugging and re-installing the printer and driver software.

(2) Followed the instructions on the HP website and tried to download the driver from that site (even watched the video)

(3)  Tried HP Support Assistant, HP Smart - not helpful at all

The printer is connected to the computer by a USB cable.

Any thoughts on how to make this printer work?

Thank you for your help.

Since you have a network-able printer, the next thing I would try, if it's a possibility, is to hook it up to your network with a network cable and try to connect that way.

To do this:

  1. Unhook the USB connection
  2. Plug the printer into a router with a network cable and wait a couple of minutes.
  3. Look in the settings to see if the printer got an IP Address from your router (by default it should be set up to automatically get an IP Address).
  4. Once it's on the network, try to add from your computer again to see if your computer sees the device.

These are not comprehensive instructions, but it's what I would do next in your position. If the printer gets an IP Address, I'd search for instructions on setting up a network printer. If it doesn't, I would search for "how to enable DHCP on my HP Printer" so you can enable the setting that allows automatic IP Addressing. Regardless, I would recommend using a network connection rather than USB.

Thank you. I am unable to network. This is the sole printer, for home use. I'll try to search for hte IP address though, see if I can use it to troubleshoot somehow. The driver downloads from both CD and HP website failed to completely install somehow. I can't figure out why?

Unfortunately, all of my knowledge is in networking printers, and no USB experience at all. I hope someone with some USB expertise can help you! Have a great day!
