Apple has updated iOS AirPrint in both iOS 18 and iOS 26 such that the double-sided option has disappeared from iOS for this printer. The AirPrint version in the latest firmware available for this unit (002_2539E, Nov 10, 2025) is very old: 20100826 (as viewable in the EWS at Tools, Product Information, Printer Information).  No printer or network settings changed between double-sided available and not available for this printer. The printer still prints duplex from macOS. It is connected via wired Ethernet to my network.

My OfficeJet Pro 9015e still shows the double-sided option in iOS, on the same network and also on an Ethernet connection. (Unfortunately, I cannot find the AirPrint version for the 9015e in the EWS for comparison.)

To rule out miscellaneous gremlins, I restarted the router, switch, and printer, and I also reset the printer to factory defaults. iOS AirPrint is still missing the double-sided option for this printer.

It is obvious that the AirPrint implementation for this printer is out of date and needs to be updated for continuing AirPrint compatibility with iOS (and possible macOS at a later date). HP, if you are listening, is that in the works? Please?

Hi @abeness

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand you are using iOS, after Apple’s iOS AirPrint updates, the “Double‑Sided” toggle no longer appears for this printer, even though no printer/network settings changed. That matches what HP documents: AirPrint’s feature set is controlled by Apple, and certain options can disappear or behave differently with OS updates even when the printer firmware remains the same.

Confirm firmware and AirPrint are enabled

  • Make sure the printer is on the latest HP firmware (which you’ve already done) using HP’s firmware update steps.
  • In the Embedded Web Server (EWS), confirm AirPrint is enabled and the AirPrint/Bonjour name is correctly set and visible on the network.
  • HP’s LaserJet Pro AirPrint setup and troubleshooting documents show how to open EWS and check AirPrint/Bonjour settings.

Verify duplex capability via macOS / HP driver

  • From macOS using the HP driver (not AirPrint), confirm that automatic duplex is enabled and working; this ensures the printer’s duplex hardware and configuration are fine. HP notes that advanced duplex options are tied to the full driver, not AirPrint.

Use alternative paths from iOS

  • Install and use the HP App on iOS. HP App https://www.hp.com/us-en/hp-app/overview.html  uses HP’s own stack rather than Apple’s basic AirPrint UI and can expose duplex and other advanced features that might not be available in the standard iOS AirPrint dialog.
  • HP explicitly positions HP App as the way to get print capabilities from mobile devices, including management options that go beyond AirPrint.

Use Wi‑Fi Direct as a test

  • Ensure Wi‑Fi Direct is enabled (Menu > Settings > Network > Wi‑Fi Direct on supported models) and try printing from iOS to the printer via Wi‑Fi Direct. HP documents that Wi‑Fi Direct + AirPrint is supported and can sometimes behave differently from printing via the infrastructure network.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
