Hello everyone, I am having issues with my laserjet. There is nothing wrong with the connection to the PC or wireless, the documents I print do print and the printing is good quality but it is printing painfully slowly.
This has changed very recently but I m not sure what caused this. Last month it was printing very quickly, I could print 5 double sided pages in a couple of seconds and the printer sounded louder and faster. Now it takes 4 times as long to print the same amount and the printer physically sounds really slow and droning (apart from when it is calibrating which is the only time it sounds normal). Can anybody help me with this?
Thanks in advance

tah7953,
Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding issues with slow printing. .Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:
- Did this occur after a recent power outage or surge?
- Did you try to make copies directly from the printer and check if it copies slowly?
- Did you update the printer’s firmware and check again?
.Let me keep you posted that the evidence points to a printer hardware issue and this is only an attempt to try and resolve the issue. If it does not work the printer needs to be replaced by contacting HP phone support.
For now, try these steps:
- Perform a hard reset first from this link: https://hp.care/2GNUl9O follow instructions from the section “Step 2: Reset the printer”
- Then make multiple copies directly from the printer and check if it copies fast at the normal speed.
If it copies at correct speeds then uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers at the root level by following these steps:
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
- Select your HP printer.
- Select Uninstall.
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
- In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
- Click on Drivers tab.
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
- Select OK.
- Remove all instances of the same.
- Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
- Close Devices and Printers.
- Restart the PC again.
Then download the latest full feature driver from https://hp.care/2saz30I and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
This should do the trick for you.
Now check for issue resolution. If the issue continues, and the printer connection is a wireless one please assign a manual IP address and Google DNS to the printer by following these steps:
- Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
- Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
- Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
- Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
- Click on the radio button which says, “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
- Click on radio button which says, “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
- Restart the printer and then router once done.
This should resolve the issue.
- If the issue continues, or if the copying is also slow then perform all the prescribed steps from this link: https://hp.care/2H89nca ( HP Printers - Slow Printing (Windows)
This should do the trick for you. It is important to update the printer's firmware from the document for slow printing.
- If it still persists, then perform these steps from this link: https://hp.care/2fBIt3e (HP Color LaserJet Pro M252, M274, M277 Printers - 'Out of Paper' Error, Printer Does Not Pick Paper)
- Step 1: Check the paper, and then reload it
- Step 2: Check the input tray settings
- Step 3: Print a cleaning page to clean the paper feed and pick rollers
- Step 4: Clean the ADF rollers and the separator pad (M277 only)
Now check if it gets fixed. If the issue continues, then contact HP phone support to get the printer replaced as the issue could be hardware related.I am being honest about it by keeping your best interest in mind here without beating around the bush.
