I have an HP LaserJet 1022. I’ve been using it with my windows 11 since January. All of it sudden it just stopped printing in the middle of a print page which ended up getting jammed in the printer. I have uninstalled the printer And reinstalled it several times. It doesn’t seem that HP has a driver listed for it anymore, but I do have the disc and have manually reinstalled the printer. However, it doesn’t show up under device manager unlessI use HP 1022 class driver. I have unplugged both the power and the cable several times and restarted the computer. I have restarted the spool on automaticwhen I try to test the page to print make sure what’s up in the printer queue but doesn’t print. it shows up under settings, Bluetooth devices, printers and scanners as an HP LaserJet 1022 class driver printer status: error. I unplugged the cable from the back of the printer removed the power cord from the printer and surge plate waited several minutes also turned off the power switch. After several minutes I plugged the power back into the printer and into a wall socket turned on the printer and tried a test print, and it did produce a test print page. I don’t know what else to do what could be wrong

Hi @EMS7

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing such a detailed account — I understand how frustrating it is when a trusted printer suddenly stops mid-job and refuses to cooperate. You’ve already done an excellent job trying multiple recovery steps.

Since the HP LaserJet 1022 is older and lacks native Windows 11 driver support, let’s walk through a few focused actions that may restore consistent printing.

Step-by-Step Recovery for HP LaserJet 1022 on Windows 11

1. Use the HP LaserJet 1022 Class Driver (Confirmed Working Path)

  • Since the printer produced a test page using the class driver, this confirms basic communication is intact.
  • Keep the HP LaserJet 1022 Class Driver selected under:
    • Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & Scanners
    • Confirm it’s set as Default Printer

2. Clear the Print Queue and Restart Spooler

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter
  • Scroll to Print Spooler, right-click and choose Restart
  • Then go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  • Right-click the 1022 printer > See what’s printing
  • Cancel all jobs, then try printing a simple test document (e.g., Notepad)

3. Avoid HP Universal Print Driver (UPD)

  • The UPD may not work reliably with this model on Windows 11
  • Stick with the class driver or manually install the HP LaserJet 1022 PCL5 driver if available

4. Manual Driver Installation via INF File

If you still have the original CD or downloaded driver folder:

  • Go to Device Manager > Printers
  • Right-click and choose Update Driver > Browse my computer
  • Navigate to the folder containing the INF file
  • Select HP LaserJet 1022 PCL5 or PCL6 if listed

5. Use HP App for Basic Print Tasks

  • Open the HP App from Start menu
  • Select your printer and try printing a test page from within the app
  • If scanning or advanced features are missing, this confirms limited driver support

6. Check USB Port Behavior

  • Try a different USB port on your PC (preferably USB 2.0 if available)
  • Avoid using hubs or extension cables
  • Confirm the cable is firmly seated at both ends

While HP no longer lists Windows 11 drivers for this model, you can still access legacy drivers here:

You’ve done a great job staying persistent — let’s keep going until your printer responds reliably again.
