Laserjet 1536dnf

I have a problem with an older Laserjet 1536dnf printer that has me stumped.

Printer just stops working.  Recycle power and the printer works fine for about a day or two, but then it just seems to stop functioning.  At first I thought it was network connection, but that does not appear to be the problem.

When it stops working, all the buttons on the control panel do not seem to work.  Hitting any button, nothing happens.  Recycle the power and all is back to normal for a day or two.

Any ideas.  I know the printer is older, but other than this problem, prints great.

Thanks.

Thanks for the information on doing both a hard reset and a NVRAM reset.

I had already done the NVRAM reset before posting my original question, but I followed your instructions and first did the hard reset.

During the first attempt at the hard reset, the printer stopped with both the ready light and attention light on.  The screen display just said Hewlett Packard and about 5 right arrow (angle brackets|).  I then recycled the power and tried again and this time it got as far as displaying a "Restarting ..." message and again hung there.  Finally on the third attempt, it completed the reset.

I then did the NVRAM reset with no problems.

After the NVRAM reset when the printer came ready again, it worked for about an hour before it hung again.  After hanging, the printer display shows nothing untoward, but none of the buttons will work.  Press the Setup button and nothing, not even a beep when pressed.  Recycyled the printer and again it worked for about an hour or so before hanging.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.
